A fine complete adult, well preserved on both sides. A typical variant, intermediate in inflation, the range of which is very wide in this species. It is morphologically intermediate between CAR 4A and CAR 6A. The body chamber shows strong uncoiling of the umbilical seam and part of the peristome is present. The specimen demonstrates the second main change in the Cardioceratidae, which occurred in the Arcticus Zone. Mosification was now in the adult stage of ontogeny i.e. the opposite of proterogenesis. In the macroconchs the shells become predominantly compressed with an arched external edge and a wholly-smooth body chamber. These are the characteristics of the morphogenus Arctocephalites. From Hjornefjeld, Jameson Land, E Greenland.
